Nunnelly was proudly awarded the Design-Build of three new kennel facilities for the Animal Defense League of Texas. The construction consisted of two new 4,000 square foot adult kennels and one new 3,200 square foot puppy room. These buildings had slab-on-grade foundations, pre-engineered metal buildings, a mix of CMU walls, and high end glazed Elgin-Butler block with a specialized multi-part epoxy flooring to handle the wear and tear of a facility built to house animals.
The scope required oversized plumbing and HVAC systems to accommodate required air exchanges for the safety of the animals, multiple daily cleanings, and hair trap systems. This project marked the beginning of a partnership between the City of San Antonio and the Animal Defense League to support the no-kill goal. The completed facility will support the City of San Antonio’s Animal Care Facility, which Nunnelly also built in 2007.
